  • Various Grafting Materials in Cosmetic Rhinoplasty and My Current Practice

Rhinoplasty remains one of the most complicated procedures in plastic surgery, and surgeons must pay much attention to both form and function to get a pleasant result. Deficiencies of the osteocartilaginous nasal dorsum, especially among East Asian populations, are a common motivation for seeking cosmetic augmentation rhinoplasty. Various graft and implant materials are available now and each of them has its advantages and disadvantages, respectively. In my current practice, I prefer alloplastic implant or homograft costal cartilage usage for patients with good skin and soft tissue envelope. Extended spreader graft and columella strut could be achieved by homologous cartilage or Medpor/Supor in septoplasty. Autologous costal cartilage graft will be reserved in revision cases or patients with poor skin quality.
