  • Application of Cellular Therapeutics in Vascularized Composite Allotransplantation

The evolution of medicine has ushered in the era of cell therapy, where cellular therapeutics find applications across a broad spectrum of diseases, including vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA). While VCA stands as a powerful modality for amending extensive tissue defects, such as those affecting the entire hand or face, its broader implementation is impeded by the necessity of life-long immunosuppressant intake and the associated side effects. The strategic incorporation of cellular therapeutics, for example mesenchymal stem cells, dendritic cells and regulatory T cells, holds great promise for reducing immunosuppressant dosage and inducing donor-specific tolerance. This presentation will explore the current data from both pre-clinical and clinical studies utilizing cellular therapeutics in VCA.
