  • Hybrid breast reconstruction by implants and fat graft: aesthetic outcome and safety

Autologous fat graft is an increasingly popular aesthetic and reconstructive technique for facial rejuvenation, buttock augmentation, scar treatment, and breast contouring and augmentation. Fat graft was used as soft tissue augmentation, starting from breast reconstruction for volume loss and aging face, from 1800s. From the survival of fat graft, suction-assisted liposuction, ultrasound-assisted liposuction, power-assisted liposuction, and laser-assisted liposuction developed in the past two hundred years.
For breast reconstruction by implant, the absolute symmetry and aesthetic outcome can’t be achieved because of the size of implant. Therefore, the hybrid method, combined with fat graft, developed. Fat graft can be used to adjust asymmetry, poor skin quality, inadequate skin condition, and others of the treated breast. Here we share our three cases with hybrid breast reconstruction.
