  • Breast Reconstruction ERAS Protocol from the Perspective of General Surgeons

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Taiwan. The number of breast cancer increased in past 30 years. In 2018, the mortality rate of breast cancer ranked the fourth in Taiwan. Breast cancer surgery with immediate or delay reconstruction also increased in the past 10 years. Delayed chemotherapy or radiation therapy increased the recurrence rate and lower the survival rate. So reconstruction with minimal complication is essential. Excellent peri-operative care required significantly fewer narcotics and shorter length of stay. Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) recommendations for optimal peri-operative care in breast reconstruction guided either plastic surgeon or breast surgeon to provide high-quality peri-operative care to diminish complication and enhanced recovery. We presented the influence of delay treatment and our experience of failed breast reconstruction.
