  • Lower eyelid pretarsal roll creation with acellular dermal matrix

    Objective:
    In Chinese physiognomy, lower eyelid pretarsal fullness is considered a sign of beauty in women. There has been a rising trend lately of surgically enhancing the lower eyelid fullness in South Korea, and to follow in Taiwan. The purpose of this study was to show the surgical technique of permanent lower eyelid pretarsal roll creation with acellular dermal matrix (ADM).

    Methods:
    A flat strip of ADM(Megaderm) is inserted and secured into place via two small incisions of 2 to 3 mm in the area below the eyes.

    Results:
    Lower-eyelid pretarsal fullness was maintained at more than 1 year after surgery. The eyelids regained a natural appearance, and the patients were highly satisfied. No major complications were observed.

    Conclusions:
    Lower eyelid roll creation with acellular dermal matrix is safe and reliable technique for a permanent and consistent pretarsal fullness.
