  • The role of Robotic-assisted breast cancer surgery: elegant destroy, flaw-free return

    Abstract
Mastectomy is inevitable in breast cancer management. The first attempt of delivery of robotic-assisted surgery to the field of breast cancer was to provide nipple-sparing mastectomy with implant-based reconstruction via a remote small incision. When the reconstructive microsurgeon gets involved in the development, the story is changing. Microsurgical breast reconstruction following robotic-assisted mastectomy has broken the limitation and expanded the indication of mastectomy. The robotic is also applied in not only subpectoral dissection for implant-based reconstruction but also free flap harvesting to minimize the donor site morbidity. Beyond the aesthetic, neurotization of the reconstructive breast is the last mile walking to perfection. The assistance of robot allows intercostal nerve dissection via the small incision without additional excision of the incision and with perfect vision.
